Wind Creek

Planning phase. An independent plan; nothing is funded or built yet. What this means

Served first via Third St and the existing EBS Green Line; River Line extension only if demand
Evaluated destination · extension only if demand (Phase 1)Typology: Employment / eventsOne-page place sheet
Third St / SteelStacks and the measured 1,666 m walk to Wind Creek. Bethlehem Commons is a separate project with its own status (site to be decided); it could connect here as an option. Shaded areas mark station areas, not sites.Overture Maps 2026-09-23.1 (© OpenStreetMap contributors; land cover ESA WorldCover, CC BY 4.0); USGS 3DEP. Illustrative — not an engineered route.

Why here

The measured walk from 3rd & Polk is 1,666 m (~21 min) — too far to count as station access. But Wind Creek is already the EBS Green Line terminus, so no duplicate station is proposed now.

Program ideas Ideas if pursued · to study

  • Timed River Line ↔ Green Line transfer at Third St
  • Greenway lighting and wayfinding
  • Shift-change trips tested with Wind Creek
  • River Line extension (+1.46 km) only if demand supports it

Which extras are worth it here, maybe later, or not worth it is rated further down this page.

Future train access On the rail-ready corridor

Sits on the rail-ready valley corridor at Wind Creek.

No passenger trains run in Bethlehem today, and no regional rail route or station has been chosen. Rail-ready stops are where this plan would keep space free. How this was measured.

Measured links

  • Valley Express — bus option: I-78 Park & Ride → Wind Creek · 3.02 km · ~4.0 min · max 6.5%
  • Valley Express — bus option: Wind Creek → Third St / SteelStacks · 1.46 km · ~3.4 min · max 5.2%
  • River Line extension to Wind Creek: Third St / SteelStacks → Wind Creek · 1.46 km · ~3.4 min · max 5.2%

Stop options on the way

  • South Bethlehem (City parkland)An optional stop on the Valley Express, 2.33 km from here, only if a separately proposed park is built. It was added after this page’s map, so the map does not show it.

Still unknown

  • Late-night demand and employer pass interest

Amenities here: worth it or not Screening judgment

Candidate built only if demand appears, since Wind Creek is already the EBS Green Line terminus, so what matters now is its 24/7 workforce (1,667 staff plus about 575 tenant staff), the late-night gap after Green Line service ends (about 22:30 on weekdays, to confirm), and its place on the rail-ready corridor.

Worth it here

  • Rail-ready space reservation: On the protected rail-ready valley corridor (Valley Express route): keep trackway and platform room clear. Low-cost safeguarding only.
  • Hospital and 24/7 shift-worker features: 1,667 staff plus ~575 tenant staff work 24/7. Propose testing late-night and shift-change trips with Wind Creek and LANTA (interest to confirm).

Maybe later here

  • Secure bike lockers or bike hub, and bike-share docks: Lockers only if the River Line extends here; the Greenway is ~120 m straight-line. Bike share fails (76 places, no operator).
  • Drop-off and paratransit loading zone: Only if the River Line extends here; share existing Wind Creek curb space by agreement (to confirm) instead of a new bay.
  • Terminal bus charger (overhead pantograph): An extended River Line would lay over here; build one only if depot charging falls short and grid capacity exists (to confirm).
  • Solar panels on the station canopy: Only once a station exists; shading, site ownership and crediting account are unknown (to confirm).
  • Battery energy storage: Only if a terminal charger is built here and demand charges (not yet pulled) make peak trimming pay.
  • Driver restroom and break room: Needed from day one only if the River Line is extended to lay over here; use a Wind Creek building by agreement.

Not worth it here

  • Heated, enclosed waiting room: No station exists or is proposed now; riders use the EBS Green Line terminus. An extension would still mean ~5-minute waits.
  • Public restrooms: No Connect station now; seek rider access at the 24/7 Wind Creek complex by agreement (to confirm) instead of building.
  • Staffed customer service: 220 LANTA trips is below the 300 test, and this isn't the main hub; the help point is enough.
  • Park-and-ride: Not at a highway interchange (I-78 is about 3 km south), and PNR already does that job.
  • Food or coffee kiosk (partner-run): 220 trips, but only 76 places, far below the 500 test.
  • Small shop space: 76 places is far below the 500 test, and there's no station.
  • Community lounge or study nook: No enclosed space, no host partner, and not a student or civic catchment.
  • Equipment-lending lockers or package lockers: 240 buildings is far below the 1,000 package-locker test, and no recreation venue or partner is identified.
  • Water bottle filler: No Connect station now, so a new freeze-proof water line at LANTA's existing terminus isn't justified.
  • Event queuing and bus staging space: The Wind Creek Event Center (about 2,250–2,550 seated, up to about 3,800 standing; leads, discoverlehighvalley.com, retrieved 19 Oct 2026) and the 2,000-person ballroom are both below the ~5,000 test; Wind Creek events stay with the existing Green Line terminus.
  • Elevators (in pairs), only at level changes: Any future stop would be curbside on Wind Creek Blvd, with no level change.
  • Ground-source heat pumps (enclosed spaces only): No enclosed space is planned.
  • Public art and heritage or geology display: No station now and no documented display content; Greenway wayfinding is the Phase 1 action.
  • Snow-melt at the platform edge: Valley stop at 78.5 m on gentle grades (max 5.2%); rely on snow clearing.
  • Regional and intercity bus bays: Trans-Bridge already runs Wind Creek to New York service; use its existing stop (location to confirm). No bays without agreement.
  • Energy display with real solar and charging data: No solar or charger meters exist or are planned here.
  • Public Wi-Fi and phone charging: No enclosed waiting room and no Connect station.

Every stop also gets the essentials. Ratings are the author's screening judgment from measured data, not a design or a commitment.
